Sometimes Asked Questions

As people ask questions, we’ll add more answers! If your problem is truly dramatic, contact us!

Is Surry Hills High free? Yes! The idea is that the initiative is free for creative participants, and funding/running costs will come via other means.

Where is it held? On your premises.

Do I need insurance to have the public come through my door? Yes, but you probably already know that. You can read our terms below. Humming (the organisers) take no responsibility or liability in connection to any accidents, theft or loss, that may occur as part of your involvement of the event.

Where did the idea come from? Humming (the organisers) first started thinking about the idea about 18 months ago, from chats with various creative and designy friends. Inspired by the events like open studios, sample sales, other networking events that already happen in the area, the idea was that if these events coincided on one day, then everyone would benefit from the increased foot traffic.

Why Surry Hills? I’m in Paddington/Fitzroy/Alice Springs. What about me? Surry Hills is a good starting point, and it was where we first came up with the idea. We’ll be creating more of these events and pretty soon you will be able to enter your postcode on this page. If we know you are interested, we may be able to help!

What if Saturday November 26 doesn’t suit me? We are really sorry to hear that. Perhaps register your email so you are updated for the next event/s. If you have suggestions for other days of the week, then drop us an email.

What’s the plan? We’d love the event to become a regular event on the calendar, and if you’ve enrolled, we’d love your feedback on what might work.

When I register, I’m giving you my full name, email address and phone number. Is this made public, or passed on to any 3rd parties? No, never.

What about the information i enter when i create an event (eg, business name, address, url, opening time)? We may promote your individual event, to help push it along. By the very nature of the site, this is information you are making public anyway. If you have any concerns, please contact us.

You can read our disclaimer, terms and privacy policy here.

I have spare space in Surry Hills that someone could use / Do you know anyone that has spare space in Surry Hills that I could use? We have a cool facility coming soon on our facebook page called need space/got spaceVisit and ‘like’ our facebook page for exclusive access to this service, where you can post any available space you have, or alternatively post up your requirement for space! It’s square-metre-match-making!

I live in Surry Hills! May I please have a garage sale or have people come into my home? I promise not to be creepy! This initiative is designed for creative professionals in Surry Hills, and we are restricting the online registrations to people with business premises/spaces. This helps us maintain a high quality and consistent event, and events that are registered are moderated by the organisers. So ‘officially’, our answer is no.

Where is Surry Hills High School? While we agree it would be one cool school, there is no such place, sorry for any confusion! Surry Hills High is our affectionate name and brand for this professional creative event.
